The usage of Dukes ball in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and hosts England has already garnered severe criticism so far. Earlier, Indian captain Shubman Gill raised his concerns over the quality of the ball, claiming that the ball has been losing its hardness earlier than expected.
A decline in the quality of the ball has also prompted match officials to change the ball in the middle of the innings on multiple occasions already, leading to over-rate complaints and lesser number of overs being bowled in a day.
Dukes Manufacturer’s Respond To Shubman Gill
Dilip Jajodia, owner of British Cricket Balls Ltd, the company that manufactures Dukes balls, has vowed to inspect the quality of the balls following the grievance expressed by Indian captain Shubman Gill. Jajodia added that the balls will be reviewed and changes will be made if they are deemed necessary.
While speaking with the BBC Sport, he said:
“We will take it away, inspect and then start talking to the tanner, talking about all of the raw materials - everything. Everything we do will be reviewed, and then if we think some changes need to be made or tightened up, we will.”
Indian captain Shubman Gill raised concerns over the usage of Dukes ball after Team India slipped to a 22-run defeat against England at Lord’s. While speaking with the reporters at the press conference, captain Gill said that the Dukes ball has been going out of shape very quickly, making it difficult for his bowlers to get a wicket.
Trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, Team India will now face England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester between July 23 and July 27.
