"Get Under His Skin…" Alyssa Healy Urges England To Sledge Shubman Gill

The Lord's Test between India and England produced some thrilling action recently, and after five days, the hosts managed to clinch their narrowest win against India in whites.

Along with quality cricket, there was a lot of tension at the ground with plenty of verbal spats. The Indian captain Shubman Gill was at the centre of those altercations, and his gesture to Zak Crawley became the talk of the town.

There is a perception that all the chatter and sledging around Gill affected his batting. After scoring three hundreds in the initial two matches, Shubman Gill could manage just 22 runs in the Lord's Test, and whenever he walked out to bat, English players sledged him brutally.

Alyssa Healy Wants England To Take Advantage Of Shubman Gill's Weakness

Now, Alyssa Healy have also urged the English team to attack Shubman Gill's weakness in a Willow Talk Podcast. The Australian captain stated that she had read somewhere that when teams go hard at him, he tends to struggle. So, if it is true, England should continue to sledge him in the rest of the series and keep him silent as much as possible.

“I read some stuff about when teams go hard at (Shubman) Gill, it can rattle him a little bit. So if England have got even half a sniff at that, then that’s exactly what’s going to happen, knowing how successful he was in those first two Test matches, there’s a way to get under his skin a little bit,” Healy said while speaking on Willow Talk Podcast.

He added that teams generally tend to go hard at the captains and try to get under the skin of the leader to put the entire team under pressure. So, she added that England should try to put as much pressure on Gill as possible and try to rattle his confidence.

“Teams generally go hard at the skipper. If you can get the skipper cheaply or get under their skin and rattle a few cages in that regard then you feel you are on your way. So if England even sniff even a little bit of weakness there, they’ll ram that home. They’ll go hard."

Thus, Alyssa Healy has asked England to go in a typical Australian way, where they try to put opposition players under pressure with constant sledging and hard cricket. It would be interesting to see how Shubman Gill tackles the situation in the next Test, as India would need their captain to deliver with the series on the line.
