Team India defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in the second T20I held at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, hence securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Having won the toss, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, decided to bowl. Afghanistan, batting first, set a target of 173 runs in 20 overs—a score that fell short on the compact Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan's showstopper duo, Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat, worked their magic with the bat, scoring a mind-blowing half-century (57 off 35) and a rapid 20-run bash in just 10 balls, respectively.

Arshdeep Singh led the wicket-taking charts for India, picking up three wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel contributed with two wickets each. Shivam Dube chipped in with one wicket as well.

In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube took the Afghan bowlers to town, wrapping up the chase in a quick 15.4 overs. Jaiswal hit 68 runs off 34 balls, and Dube was unstoppable with 63 runs in just 32 balls.

In the post-match presser after the win, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, celebrated his 150th T20I appearance, the only men’s cricketer to achieve this milestone. Here’s what he said:

"It is a great feeling, it has been a long journey starting way back in 2007. I've cherished every moment I have spent here.”

The 35-year-old further shed light on the team's strategy, mentioning that they have been executing the communicated messages and consistently checking all the right boxes in the last two matches.

"We have been clear with what we wanted to do, very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud. One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we've ticked a lot of boxes.”

Here is what Rohit Sharma said on the performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube:

"They've had a great couple of years, Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots. Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us.”

The third T20I match is set to be played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 17.
