Sixes and fours are raining heavily in the ongoing Big Bash League 2023-24. During the ongoing dead-rubber match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars on Monday, a well-timed gigantic six from Ben McDermott caught the eyes of the spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.

Known for his audacious shot-making, McDermott was once again at his brutal best. Opening the batting with Matthew Wade, McDermott took the attack to the Stars bowlers.

On the fourth delivery of the fourth over, McDermott smacked a length delivery bowled by Melbourne’s Scott Boland to deep square leg for a monstrous six. The power behind the shot was such that the ball sailed to the second decker.

McDermott didn’t stop as he continued the attack against the Stars bowlers. He went on to score fifty in 34 balls. His innings came to a close with Nathan Coulter-Nile getting him caught behind in the tenth over. The dynamic right-handed batter smashed seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 50 (35).

His opening partner, Wade, also got to his fifty before Daniel Lawrence outfoxed him to put an end to his innings at 63.

The openers have provided the launchpad that the Hurricanes needed, and now it’s up to the rest of the batters to step up and contribute to a big first innings total. It is pertinent to note that the outcome of this match will not affect the standings, as four teams have already qualified for the knockouts. However, both teams will be looking to end the tournament on a high note with a win at the MCG.
