Virat Kohli's comeback in Ranji Trophy turned out to be one of the most celebrated and followed domestic games of recent times. The Indian star played in Ranji game after 2012 and there were expectations that he would deliver big at the domestic level. The game was against Railways at his home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, but the batter failed miserably, departing for just six.
Himanshu Sangwan was the bowler who cleaned up Indian star with a perfect inswinger and it immediately brought him into the limelight. He suddenly became a household name and after a lot of hard work over the years, the man is finally getting his due. Now, in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, the fast bowler from Railways opened up about how life has changed after Kohli's wicket and shared some interesting stories that cooked up leading into the game.
Himanshu Sangwan Reveals Stories Before Virat Kohli's Dismissal
Himanshu Sangwan stated that there were initially not sure about the availability of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, and there was no clarity whether the match will be aired or not. The bowler then added that when they finally got confirmation everyone had a belief that he would get Kohli out as he is a leader of Railways' pace attack.
"Before the match, there were talks about Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant going to play for Delhi. At the time, we didn't know that the match would be aired live. We slowly learned that Rishabh Pant wouldn't play, but Virat would, and the match would be streamed live. I am leading the Railways' pace attack. Every team member told me that they thought I would dismiss Virat Kohli."
He also stated that the driver of the bus in which they were travelling also told him to bowl around the fourth-stump line to get rid of Kohli and added that he just wanted to focus on his strengths and had a self belief.
"The bus in which we were travelling, even the bus driver told me that you know that you need to bowl at the fourth-fifth stump line to Virat Kohli, and then he will get out. I had self-belief. I just wanted to focus on my own strengths rather than someone else's weaknesses. I bowled to my strengths and ended up getting the wicket."
Railways could not win the game despite taking out Kohli early, but Himanshu Sangwan surely has made a name for himself and would like to capitalise on it and do better in future.
