India and Rajasthan Royals have been jolted with the news of Sanju Samson's injury. The star batter was hit on the finger by a Jofra Archer bouncer during the 5th T20I between India and England and the batter looked in some discomfort as the physio rushed onto the field quickly.
The batter was rattled by the delivery and immediately he was dismissed as he was sent packing for just 6 runs. Interestingly, he didn't came out to keep during the England batting as Dhruv Jurel replaced him during the second innings. As per the reports, Samson is likely to be sidelined for a period of 6 weeks which could hamper his IPL participation as well.
After being struck by the delivery, Samson wasn't taken for scans as the keeper was seen sitting in the dugout. It was believed that his injury wasn't serious, but as per a PTI report, he is set for a lengthy spell on sidelines due to a fractured index finger. As per the report, the swelling on his finger increased once he came back to the dressing room and hence, the management decided to send in Jurel as his keeper replacement.
Samson will also miss Kerala's upcoming Ranji Trophy quarter-final match Vs Jammu and Kashmir.
Samson's lean patch of form in England T20Is
Sanju Samson, after witnessing the highs during the South Africa series, came crashing down with string of low scores in the England T20I series. With scores of 26, 5, 3, 1, 16, the keeper/batter failed to deliver the goods as England bowlers exposed his weakness.
The duo of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer peppered him with barrage of short-pitched deliveries as Samson looked clueless and was dismissed in the same manner in every game.
