Afghanistan star bowler Rashid Khan lit up the season opener at Lord's with a match-winning spell as Oval Invincibles cruised to a 6-wicket win over London Spirit. Essentially, Rashid Khan once again reminded the cricketing world why he is a T20 phenomenon after having a subpar IPL 2025 season.

On the grand stage of Lord’s in the opening match of The Hundred 2025, the Afghan spin wizard delivered a spellbinding performance that choked the life out of London Spirit’s batting line-up.

Rashid Khan Announces Form With The Hundred Opener

Rashid Khan picked up 3 wickets while conceding just 11 runs from his 20 balls. He dismissed key middle-order batters, Wayne Madsen, Liam Dawson, and Ryan Higgins, just when the Spirit were looking to steady their innings. His 2.75 economy was the best in the match and proved decisive in restricting the Spirit to a paltry 80 runs in 94 balls.

Rashid was introduced just after the powerplay, and he immediately made an impact, tightening the screws as London struggled to find any rhythm. Madsen, who was looking well-set, fell to a googly he didn’t read. Dawson was trapped LBW a couple of balls later, and Rashid returned to remove Higgins, who was beginning to look threatening.

Invincibles Utilise Rashid Khan's Help!

Notably, Khan's spell was supported by quality bowling from Sam Curran, who also claimed 3 wickets for 18 runs, and Jordan Clark with 2 wickets. But it was Rashid who turned the tide and ensured London Spirit never had a chance to post a defendable total.

In response, Oval Invincibles chased down the target of 81 with 31 balls to spare. Will Jacks top-scored with 24, while small but quick-fire cameos from Sam Curran, Sam Billings, and Donovan Ferreira sealed the win with ease.

The victory marks a perfect start for the Oval side, who will be thrilled with Rashid’s form and the overall team performance. For London Spirit, it’s back to the drawing board after a collapse sparked by the magician from Afghanistan.
