The T20 excitement is coming back as the Asia Cup is returning with yet another thrilling edition, and the excitement is already touching the sky. Before the tournament starts, Afghanistan is taking their preparation to the next level as a tri-series is aligned on the horizon for them.

Ahead of the series, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced a 22-member preliminary squad to sharpen their preparation for the Asia Cup.

ACB Announces A Mighty Preliminary Squad

After waves of speculation, the Asia Cup is returning with a thrill-filled season as the UAE is set to host the tournament from September 9. Before stepping into the high-voltage tournament, the Afghanistan side is not leaving any stones in their way as they are set to play a Tri-Series with Pakistan and UAE just ahead of the Asia Cup to sharpen their game.

As the Tri-Series is set to go on the big stage on August 29, the team will head into a two-week preparatory camp in the UAE to fine-tune their skills and adapt to the conditions. Ahead of thar, the cricket board announced a strong 22-member preliminary squad for the Tri-Series and Asia Cup.

Combined with some game-changers like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, youngsters like Abdullah Ahmadzai, Bashir Ahmed, and Wafiullah Tarakhil secured their place in the squad.

Rashid Khan To Captain The Side

As the Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the strong squad, Rashid Khan is all set to lead the side. As the ace spinner is struggling with his form, the board has shown its faith in the bowler. After having an average IPL season with the Gujarat Titans, they opted out of the MLC 2025, but the board backed him ahead of the high-voltage tournament.

“Rashid Khan is Afghanistan's superstar player. He has always done it for the team. Being in form or out of form, that's a part of game, but he knows very well how to come back stronger and perform in major events for the team and the country,” Mir Mubariz revealed in a chat with Cricbuzz.
