Ahead of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, England young batting sensation Harry Brook has praised Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, calling him “one of the best batters in the world.”
Harry Brook Lauds Rishabh Pant’s Impactful Batting
Brook was full of admiration for Pant’s bold and entertaining style of play, which has made him a fan favourite across the world.
“He is an awesome player. I enjoyed watching him bat. He’s an eye-catcher; everyone turns on the television when he bats. In my opinion, he is one of the best batters in the world,” Brook told The Hindu.
Rishabh Pant and Brook were both standout performers in the thrilling first Test at Headingley, Leeds. Pant dazzled fans with two sensational centuries, while Brook narrowly missed out on a century, getting out for 99 in the first innings and then dismissed for a golden duck in the second.
Despite Pant’s heroics with the bat, England pulled off a remarkable run chase of 371 runs in the final innings, setting a record and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Harry Brook also spoke about skipping the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was expected to play for Delhi Capitals (DC). Pant, who captains DC, was set to lead the team during that season.
“It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties,” Brook said.
Brook had initially pulled out of IPL 2024 and had previously withdrawn after being picked in the mega auction, which led to a ban on participating until the next mega auction.
With the series poised for more action, Brook and the England team are preparing for the second Test at Edgbaston with confidence after their big win in the first match. Notably, England have announced that they will go with an unchanged playing XI.
