Indian Premier League (IPL) is buzzing with news that Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant might enter the upcoming mega auction. Pant, who has been a loyal player for Delhi Capitals (DC) throughout his IPL career, is reportedly no longer in the franchise’s captaincy plans. DC is undergoing a significant transformation in its backroom, with both Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly no longer in charge.
The TOI recently reported that Pant is highly likely to enter the auction, attracting attention from multiple high-profile IPL franchises. Among them, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) tops the list, while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also reportedly interested in Pant, with captaincy role keeping in mind.
With IPL retentions becoming a hot topic, fans and experts alike are eager to predict the future team line-ups. During the India vs. New Zealand Test, the discussion veered toward the IPL 2025 mega auction predictions, where Pant’s future was a central focus. He even tweeted humorously, asking if he would be sold and for how much.
Simon Doull, a former New Zealand pacer, made a bold prediction live on JioCinema, saying,
“Chennai are going to break the bank for him. You’ll see him in Yellow. Dhoni will play this season probably, and after that, Pant will take over.”
Rishabh Pant returned to the IPL 2024 after a 15-month break and made an impressive impact. Despite not being at his best, Pant outscored all his DC teammates, racking up 446 runs at an average of 40.54 and a strike rate of 155.40. Not just DC’s most reliable batter, Pant also led the team to playoffs in 2021 during his first season as captain, proving his leadership qualities.
Rishabh Pant Meets Delhi Capitals Owners
According to reports, Pant knows his worth in the league. Despite being a top retention choice, he wasn’t pleased with DC’s proposed offer of Rs 18 crore. Earlier in the month, Pant reportedly met with DC co-owners Parth Jindal and Kiran Kumar Grandhi to express his dissatisfaction with the retention amount, which might be another reason he’s considering the auction.
