Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are enduring one of their toughest seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The five-time champions are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoff race. Things started on a high note with a convincing win against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI).
However, since that promising start, the two teams have gone in opposite directions. While MI has climbed the points table with consistent performances, CSK has slipped to the bottom, struggling to find their rhythm.
Tom Moody Comments On MS Dhoni's IPL Future
Meanwhile, speculation about MS Dhoni’s IPL future has been ongoing for the past few seasons. Fans and analysts are keen to know if the iconic captain will retire after this season.
Recently, Tom Moody, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), gave his perspective on Dhoni’s situation. According to Moody, the legendary captain appears to be lacking the same fire that once defined his leadership.
In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Moody shared his thoughts:
"Every team is a mirror of their leaders, and he is such a significant leader, and has been for so long. We all have a fire inside of us, and at times we need to recognize when that is starting to flicker, and if not, go out. I just don't know whether what I am seeing is correct, but certainly my observation is that the spark is not there that I have seen in previous years."
Despite scoring 180 runs in 12 innings with a strike rate of 137.64, Dhoni’s performance hasn’t been enough to rescue CSK’s season. One of the major issues for CSK this season has been the inconsistency in their batting lineup. Adding to their woes, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had to exit midway due to an elbow injury, forcing the legendary MS Dhoni to take charge once again.
Although Dhoni has previously led CSK to five IPL titles, his return as captain hasn’t stopped the team’s decline. Out of nine matches, CSK has managed just two victories, and their auction strategy has faced considerable criticism from fans and experts alike.
As IPL 2025 resumes after suspension, CSK will face Rajasthan Royals in their next match. Although their playoff hopes are over, the team and their fans would love to see them finish the season with a couple of wins and some regained pride.
