India are gearing up to take on England in a five-match Test series, which is part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship. One of the biggest talking points ahead of this series is India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.

With experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not in the squad, Bumrah is one of the most senior and important players for India. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar has already mentioned that Bumrah may not play all five matches, mainly due to concerns over managing his fitness, especially after his recent back injury during the Australia series. But there’s good news for Indian fans.

Morkel’s Big Statement Ahead of India vs England Test Series

India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has been extremely impressed by Bumrah's form in the first few training sessions in England. He said he was “blown away” by the speed, energy, and sharpness Bumrah showed in the nets. Morkel added that Bumrah is looking physically fit and ready to go.

"Bumrah knows how to get himself ready, he knows how to prepare. I was blown away to see the energy on the ball the last three days. That's very exciting to see. I'm happy his body is in good shape at the moment," Morkel said on Wednesday, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

"We'll manage him with that. We'll be smart with him because he's obviously key for us, but in terms of the first three net sessions, lot to be excited watching him bowl with the Dukes ball."

Still, because of Bumrah's injury history, the Indian team will be smart in how they use him. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has hinted that Bumrah might play only three matches out of five, but no final decision has been made. The team will decide as the series goes on, based on how Bumrah feels physically.

Notably, India have won a Test series in England in 2007, under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. Although they couldn’t win the 2021-2022 series, they did manage to draw it 2-2, which was still a solid performance.

This time, with a strong bowling unit led by a fit Jasprit Bumrah, India will be hoping to finally win a Test series on English soil again.

The first Test will be played in Leeds starting June 20, followed by matches in Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester, and The Oval, wrapping up by early August.
