Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is eyeing a return to the cricket field with the Ranji Trophy opener on October 11, after being sidelined due to injury. 

If he successfully makes his comeback, Shami could potentially be available for the second or third Test against New Zealand, following India's series against Bangladesh. 

Speaking at a recent award ceremony, Shami shared insights into what it's like playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. 

Known for his calm and composed leadership, Rohit has a reputation for empowering his players to perform without undue pressure.

Shami also noted that while Rohit grants this freedom, he has clear expectations. When these are not met, Rohit’s subtle reactions—often visible on the screen—communicate his thoughts without the need for words. 

"The best thing about Rohit is that he gives you freedom. Agar aap uske hisaab se sahi nahi utre, to unke thode se reaction bahar aane lagte hain. Wo aapko bateyga ki aapko ye karna tha, ya ye chaiye tha. Fir bhi aap uspe khare nahi utre, toh fir jo hum screen pe jo reactions dekhte hain, jo hum bina bole samajh jaate hain na, wo aane lagta hai," Shami said.

Rohit Sharma and co. will play three-match Test series against New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, starting October 20.
