IPL Won't Assure Selection In India For Shreyas Iyer & Ishan Kishan: Reports

In a recent move by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been excluded from the annual contract list. The decision raised eyebrows, leaving fans wondering about the duo's future in Indian cricket. 

Since then, a pandora box of problems has opened for the dynamic Indian box. Various former cricketers and pundits have been praising BCCI's decision and are openly criticising Iyer and Kishan. 

In this dramatic situation, another report from the Indian Express is making waves that state even performances in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) would not assure places for Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer in the Indian setup. 

"Ishan was granted a break that he sought. He hasn't, however, reported to the state unit or the NCA and is still training alone. The BCCI had no chance of offering a central contract in the given circumstances. We relied on Shreyas' medical reports in a similar manner. They can still come as long as they regularly play domestic cricket," source told the newspaper.

The absence of Iyer and Kishan from the contract list hints at the importance of prioritizing domestic cricket. 

"If Kishan and Iyer can claw their way back into the Indian side and represent the country for the required number of matches, then they can get their contracts back soon," the report further stated.

Veteran cricketers shared their views on the matter, with Wriddhiman Saha stressing the importance of domestic cricket for players' growth. Meanwhile, Madan Lal praised the exclusion of Iyer and Kishan from the BCCI contracts.

Although the road back to the Indian side may seem daunting for Iyer and Kishan, it is not impossible. Their exclusion from central contracts does not rule out future selection. Consistent performances in domestic and IPL cricket could pave their way back into contention.

The upcoming IPL 2024 presents an opportunity for Iyer and Kishan to showcase their talents. With quality and age on their side, a strong showing in the tournament could reignite their prospects for national selection.
