The Pakistan Super League (PSL) roadshow at Lord’s Cricket ground in London was chaired by Pakistan legend Wasim Akram, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and cricket commentator Ramiz Raja on December 7, and the event, though marked as one of the greatest in the history of PSL, was overshadowed by a dig that Wasim Akram took while speaking at the event.
While talking about the general scenario of T20 leagues across the world and giving a brief about the PSL format and dynamics, Akram took a massive dig at the Indian Premier League (IPL) for its duration.
Wasim Akram lauds PSL over IPL for crisp timeline
IPL usually spans about two months, featuring almost 74 matches, including the knockout stages. While other leagues across the world also boast leagues with massive durations, IPL has the longest of them.
Taking an indirect dig at the long span of IPL, where Wasim Akram himself came for commentary stints and even featured in a few games during its inaugural years, the Pakistan legend lauded PSL for its short yet crisp duration.
"The best thing about PSL is that it lasts for 34 days or a bit more next year. It’s not three months long like other league. Bachay baray ho jatay hain, woh league khatam hi nahi hoti (Kids grow up by the time those leagues end—they just never seem to finish)” Akram shared while speaking at the show.
Notably, IPL’s 18th edition in 2025 saw the tournament begin on March 22 as it had its finale on June 3 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerging as the first-time winner of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Super League is comparatively on the shorter side, with only six teams participating in the tournament compared to that of 10 IPL teams. The Pakistan T20 league usually lasts for about a month, with its upcoming edition scheduled to commence from May 2026.
