Indian women's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has returned to training as the team prepares for a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on December 21 at home. Her comeback to the field comes right after she made a major personal announcement that had been the subject of widespread speculation.
For the past few weeks, fans and media had been buzzing with rumours about Smriti’s wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal, which was originally scheduled for November 23. The wedding was first postponed when Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered an unexpected medical emergency.
Soon after, reports claimed that Palash, the groom-to-be, was also hospitalised due to stress. These events led to even more rumours online, leaving fans confused and concerned.

On Sunday, Smriti finally decided to address everything herself. She posted an emotional statement on Instagram confirming that the wedding had officially been called off.
In her message, she wrote that the past few weeks had been overwhelming, and she wanted everyone to know the truth directly from her.
“I am a very private person, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off,” she said.
Notably, Smriti added that she believes in focusing on her purpose, which has always been representing India in cricket. She stressed that winning matches and trophies for the country will remain her top priority.
Meanwhile, her return to training is important for India as this will be the team’s first series after becoming ODI World Champions, having defeated South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Notably, the five T20Is against Sri Lanka will serve as key preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 12 in England.
