Caught on the sidelines of the Australia vs India 5th T20I match at Gabba, Brisbane, Arshdeep Singh was pretty animated with his response to quirky questions in the rain-affected fixture.
The match between India and Australia was abandoned due to persistent rain and thunderstorms as the visitors bagged the series 2-1, keeping up the lively atmosphere for the team. Arshdeep Singh was a chattering bee spilling his swing secrets.
Arshdeep Singh credits Pakistan legend for bowling skills
At the sidelines, when the host asked him how he manages to swing the ball both ways (something that is confined to very limited pace bowlers) Arshdeep remained candid in the admission.
"Nothing fancy there. The shining side is to the left. Very normal grip for the inswinger. I tilt the grip a bit towards the first slip for the outswinger and try to flick it with my wrist. I saw a video of Wasim Akram showing the flick. Since then, I've started doing that flick. I haven't mastered it yet. I am still trying," Arshdeep Singh replied to the host for Fox Cricket.
Arshdeep on breaking the middle stump twice!
Amping up the lighter note, Arshdeep Singh was even hilarious while speaking of his rare middle stump breaking record in IPL 2023. As the host asked him how he was able to do that, Arshdeep jokingly blamed the material of the wicket while crediting Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith for the 'cracks'.
"I would say that the stumps' material wasn't nice. I was the slowest bowler in that game. There were Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson bowling 150 kph. I think they were hitting the stumps again and again, and there was a crack on the stumps. Then I figured it out, hit the crack and the stump was broken," Arshdeep concluded.
Arshdeep Singh is still a premier bowler in the making, and under the guidance of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep will continue to impress in white-ball cricket. Notably, the Madhya Pradesh-born have picked 105 wickets in T20I cricket and is breaking his ground slowly in ODI as well, with 17 scalps from 11 matches.
With the Proteas series next down the line, Arshdeep Singh will aim to make a place in the Playing XI to best utilise his 'two-way swings'.
