South African speedster Dale Steyn voiced the excitement that Indian fans have for the return of Shubman Gill in the T20I series after he sprained his neck in the Test series against South Africa back in November.
Notably, Shubman Gill has been declared fit and will return to the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. The opener missed the second Test and the ODI series, too. After undergoing rehab at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, he is now ready for the five-match contest starting December 9.
Steyn points out three reasons of excitement!
Ahead of the series, working as a JioStar expert, South African legend Dale Steyn shared his excitement, highlighting three key points to notice as Gill returns.
"Number one: Shubman Gill! Sounds like he's back for India. So, that makes every fan in India pretty excited. Number two: David Miller. He's back for South Africa. Big-hitting David Miller! He hits the ball out of the ground and I'm excited to watch him back. Number three: South Africa are taking on India in a T20. The last time I watched South Africa play India in a T20 was in a World Cup final in Barbados. This is going to be a great thing to watch and I am very excited to be part of it," Steyn said as quoted by ANI.
Return of the stars boost India lineup
As excited as Steyn is, Gill’s addition to the T20I squad is a remarkable boost for the Indian T20I team that sees a fiery yet young squad led by Suryakumar Yadav. Noticeably, Shubman Gill is slightly familiar with the venue of the 1st T20I.
At the Barabati Stadium, Gill has 60 runs from his single ODI match with a dot ball percentage of 48.1, as the team will be trusting him with a foundational duty at the top.
Noticeably, Hardik Pandya is also making a comeback in the T20 squad, where he is already in red-hot form coming off a successful SMAT stint for Baroda. Overall, ending the ODI series on a high, the Men in Blues will be confident again to take on the visitors in the five-match T20I series.
