‘Babar Should Learn From Kohli…’ Harbhajan After PAK Captain’s World Cup 2023 Failure

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has taken an indirect dig at Pakistan captain Babar Azam after the latter failed to take his side past the finishing line against Australia at the 2023 World Cup. The Pakistan batting legend, currently placed number one on ICC ODI rankings, arrived to the crease following a 134-run opening stand in 21 overs.

The cricketer, however, failed to maintain the momentum as he mistimed a length ball from Adam Zampa for just 18 as Pakistan slumped to 175-3 in their 368-run pursuit. The ‘Men in Green’ eventually perished at 305 to hand Australia a 62-run win in Bengaluru.

Harbhajan Singh urges Babar Azam to learn from ‘King’

A day after Pakistan’s big defeat to Australia, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) and urged Babar Azam and others to take run-chase tips from batting great Virat Kohli.

The legendary spinner, who was teammates with Kohli in India’s triumphant 2011 World Cup run at home, praised the latter for his ability of scoring match-winning runs from any situations and across all conditions. Harbhajan wrote:

“Kohli is a modern day legend without a question. Scored runs in every situation and conditions and won game for India.. Babar and many others should learn from King Kohli baat khatam. Koi shak anyone (that's all, any doubts)?”

In a similar situation for India in their World Cup 2023 clash against Australia, Virat Kohli arrived to the crease when his side had lost its first three wickets for just two on the board. Chasing a comparatively lower total in Chennai, albeit under bowling-friendly conditions, Kohli formed a rebellious match-winning partnership with KL Rahul.

Babar Azam, on the other hand, has managed just one half-century so far in the ongoing 2023 World Cup in India. After four innings this tournament, the Pakistani veteran has managed only 83 runs at a substandard average of 21.25.

He will now lead his side in their must-win World Cup 2023 game against Afghanistan on October 23. Their much-awaited showdown will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
