Kusal Perera, fresh from his scintillating 78 against Australia last week, was dismissed for just five by Aryan Dutt during Sri Lanka’s stiff run-chase against Netherlands at the 2023 World Cup in Lucknow. The opening batsman was dismissed by the off-spinner in the fifth over of the innings to hand Netherlands their first wicket of the contest.

Sri Lankan opener Kusal Perera took first guard at the crease alongside partner Pathum Nissanka. While the latter of the two batters launched a confident start to his innings, Perera failed to get going and eventually perished at the hands of Netherlands’ new-ball spinner Aryan Dutt to curtail his eight-ball stay at the crease.

Perera, in his attempt to break shackles against the run-of-play, played a cut short to a short and wide delivery from Dutt. Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, the left-hander failed to get enough elevation on his cut short and ended up spooning an easy catch to Bas de Leede stationed at short third.

His captain Kusal Mendis also made his way back to the pavilion without adding much to the score as Sri Lanka slumped to 52-2 in their pursuit of 263 runs.

Earlier in the game, Netherlands elevated themselves from 91-6 to a competitive 262 off the backdrop of sparkling half-centuries from Sybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Beek. The two cricketers shared a rebellious 130-run stand for the seventh wicket to guide their side towards safety in a must-win World Cup 2023 match.
