Pakistan all-rounder Fawad Alam has backed comeback man Mohammad Amir and team captain Babar Azam to come up clutch against Team India at the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9.

Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the ‘Men in Green’ crashed to a shock defeat at the hands of USA in their opening match of the tournament earlier this week.

While Babar scored a sluggish 43-ball 44 with the bat, Amir conceded 18 runs in the Super Over as USA secured a thrilling win at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas on June 6.

Fawad Alam backs Amir, Babar to redeem themselves

Out-of-favor Pakistan all-rounder Fawad Alam believes Mohammad Amir and Babar Azam can redeem themselves by delivering a match-winning performance against India in their must-win Group A match on June 9.

He also defended Amir and urged fans to not judge the fast bowler on the basis of his Super Over performance against USA.

While speaking with the PTI, he said:“I feel Mohammad Amir will redeem himself and give a match-winning performance against India alongside captain Babar who has had a pretty decent record against them. Based on that super over, you can't blame Amir. He is not the same bowler as he was four years back. He has been playing cricket in different leagues and is still Pakistan's best and most experienced bowler.”

Mohammad Amir recently reversed his retirement from international cricket to feature in Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Yet to open their account on the Group A points table, Babar Azam and co. will go up against Team India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

The much-awaited contest will be played on June 9 and the action will commence from 8:00 PM IST onwards.
