Hardik Pandya has been working extremely hard on his fitness ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Mumbai Indians (MI) captain is leaving no stone unturned in retaining optimum shape for the IPL 2024 after being named skipper upon his return to the franchise.

Pandya, who had a shocking comeback to MI ahead of the mini-auction late last year after spending two mighty successful years as leader of the Gujarat Titans (GT), is working on his physique by sweating it out in the gym and the yoga sessions over the past couple of months.

The 30-year-old seems to have recovered from the knee injury which ruled him out of the ICC World Cup 2023 midway through India's campaign in October. The cricketer has since also missed the T20Is at home against Australia and the limited-overs section of the South African tour.

Not part of India's Test match reckoning since August 2018, the white-ball specialist is undergoing a prolonged absence from the competitive scene and won't be returning to the field until late March when he plies his trade for MI again via IPL 2024.

Pandya's MI return had been speculated after he was missing in the Titans' retention list. The Gujarat franchise, with whom the veteran allrounder formed a great bond and took them to the trophy and a runners-up finish in IPL 2022 and IPL 2023, traded him to MI for INR 15 crores plus an undisclosed transfer fee

MI welcomed their premier allrounder back in the fold and immediately appointed him as the new captain, leading to shockwave as their previous skipper Rohit Sharma happens to be the joint-most successful captain in IPL history with five titles alongside Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) MS Dhoni.
