Zaheer Khan believes Team India will be fielding all three of their frontline spinners in their World Cup 2023 opening match against Australia. The former speedster made the huge claim considering the spin-friendly conditions on offer at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

According to the 2011 World Cup winner, the Indian team will start out with a massive advantage over Australia in the presence of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI.

Zaheer Khan wants all three Indian spinners to play against Australia

Ravichandran Ashwin was fast-tracked into India’s World Cup 2023 squad following a wrist injury to Axar Patel. With the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav being considered favorites to make it to the playing XI, a number of cricket experts predicted Ashwin to start out as India’s standby spinner for the tournament.

However, Zaheer Khan wants the Indian team management to unleash an all-out spin attack against Australia by fielding all three frontline spinners in their opening match at the spin-friendly Chennai wicket. On the pacers’ front, Khan added that Hardik Pandya’s all-round presence in the side will assist new-ball speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, which would ultimately mean that Shardul Thakur will have to miss out.

While speaking with Cricbuzz, the legendary fast bowler said:

“When you are playing in Chennai, the first discussion should be about accommodating three spinners. With Hardik Pandya there, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be the two frontline seamers. I feel that all three spinners will be in the playing XI. Shardul Thakur will have to miss out.”

India’s much-awaited World Cup 2023 clash against Australia will be played on October 8. The match marks the opening fixtures for both sides in this tournament.
