AB de Villiers retired from international cricket at the peak of his powers in 2018 and then decided to leave the IPL after the 2021 season. However, many believed at that time that the South African star retired early and could have easily played the game a bit longer.

AB De Villiers Turns Back The Clock With Stunning Performance In WCL 2025

Now, after many years, AB de Villiers has once again shown why he is one of the finest batters to play the game. He is now 41 years old and has been out of competitive cricket for a long time, but that did not affect him one bit when he walked out to play for South Africa Champions in the World Championship Of Legends 2025.

The right-handed batter smashed 429 runs in just six innings, which included three centuries. One of them came in the final of the tournament against Pakistan Champions, and it was his fireworks that helped South Africa lift the title.

The performance from ABD has pleasantly surprised everyone, and now his long-time teammate and friend, Dale Steyn, has also given his opinion. Dale Steyn posted on his official X handle that AB de Villiers is still better than half of the international players in the IPL. The legendary pacer did not hesitate to add that ABD might be even better than half of the international players.

"Unpopular/Popular opinion.

Ab is still better than half the internationals at IPL. Maybe even more."

Dale Steyn's Remark Highlights AB De Villiers' Talent

Steyn's words largely resonate with the social media narrative around AB de Villiers. The South African was one of the top international players during his time in the IPL and was an irreplaceable part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Steyn's comments show how much AB de Villiers is respected across the cricketing world, but it can also be taken as a comment on the current quality of international cricketers in the IPL.

Nevertheless, the Indian Premier League remains the best cricket league in the world and attracts the finest talent from around the world. RCB recently won the 2025 edition of the league with AB de Villiers in attendance, and with the kind of form he has shown, RCB or other IPL teams might want to bring him on board at least in their coaching staff.
