Kavya Maran, who co-owns the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and is also the CEO, has been chosen to be part of a new 14-member board that will help guide sports development in Telangana, as per the reports. This board is part of a larger plan called the Telangana Sports Policy.
Telangana Unveils New Sports Policy At State Conclave
The new sports policy was officially announced on August 2 by Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, at the first-ever Telangana Sports Conclave in Hyderabad. The goal of this policy is to improve sports in the state by building better facilities, creating job opportunities in sports, and helping athletes grow from the grassroots level to the international stage.
The Chief Minister said that this policy isn’t just for show, it’s meant to help Telangana athletes succeed and even win medals at the Olympics.
To make sure the policy is properly managed, a Board of Governors has been formed to oversee how the Telangana Sports Development Fund is used.
This board includes some of India’s top sports figures, like cricket legend Kapil Dev, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, football star Bhaichung Bhutia, and businessman Sanjeev Goenka.
Who Is Kavya Maran?
Kavya Maran is one of the younger members on this board. For those who don’t know, she is the daughter of media tycoon Kalanithi Maran, the head of the Sun Group, and she often represents the SRH team at IPL matches. She comes from a prominent political family in Tamil Nadu, her grandfather was Murasoli Maran, and her uncle is Dayanidhi Maran, a former Union Minister.
With a personal net worth of over ₹400 crore, Kavya is considered one of the most influential young women in Indian sports business. Her father is among India’s richest businessmen, with an estimated net worth of around ₹25,000 crore.
