After trashing Pakistan in the Super Four contest of the Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek Sharma opened up on his bond and understanding with opening partner Shubman Gill. Sharma said the duo can communicate through their eyes, and one gesture is enough to pass along the message.
Sharma and Gill, the ‘fire & ice’ duo, crushed Pakistan with a sensational 105-run partnership while chasing 172 runs at Dubai on September 21. They knitted the three-figure partnership inside 10 overs to set up the perfect foundation for an easy win.

Abhishek Sharma adores his bond with Shubman Gill
While Abhishek Sharma stood tall with 74 off 39 balls, Shubman Gill missed his half-century by 3 runs, getting dismissed on 47 off 28 balls. However, they did their job just right to guide India to a 6-wicket victory.
That being said, after the game, Abhishek had a special chat with captain Suryakumar Yadav, where he opened up on his bond with childhood friend Gill. In a video released by BCCI, Sharma revealed that after playing together for years, he has developed a great understanding with Shubman.
"Ek cheez hai. Humari U12 me bhi wahi baat hoti thi. Aaj bhi wahi hoti hai kyunki ek dusre to itni achi tarah jaante hai ki mujhe pata hai woh kab maarne wala hai. Usse bhi pata hai mai yeh shot abhi maar sakta hoon. Toh aankho aankho me aise hi ishara ho jata hai. Toh understanding humari hai," Sharma said.
Abhishek added that he is struggling to match Gill’s intensity while running between the wickets, but he is working on it to get there.
"Maine usse bola hai ki pehle thoda bata diya kar [to run singles] toh ma ready rahunga. Jab woh batting karta hai toh aisa lagta hi nhi hai ki aisa dheema sa khelega but woh uski quality hai. But I'm working on it," he added.
Notably, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill have been playing together since their U12 days in Punjab. They grew up into these superstars together, and hence, their friendship is very much visible on the field.
Suryakumar Yadav describes Gill and Abhishek as fire and ice
India skipper Suryakumar Yadav lauded the “fire-and-ice” partnership of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill after their 105-run stand powered India to victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025.
"It's like a fire-and-ice combination. They complement each other really well. And, that's what I want to see. If someone is batting brilliantly, the other can take the back seat and rotate the strike. It was required today to have a very good start. And, they did," Yadav said.
In the post-match press conference, SKY highlighted how their contrasting styles balance each other perfectly in T20 cricket. He attributed their chemistry to their long history of being friends since Punjab U12 days.
