Vaibhav Suryavanshi is just 14 years old and has already shown signs of being a long-term asset for Indian cricket. In 2024, at the age of 13, the left-handed batter became the youngest player to hit a century in youth cricket.
The Rajasthan Royals gave him an opportunity in IPL 2025 and he did not disappoint, blasting a century from just 35 balls in the game against Gujarat Titans. Suryavanshi is now dominating bowlers in India U19 camp ahead of the England tour. Thus, the excitement around the cricketer is increasing with each passing day, and Yograj Singh, Yuvraj's father was also asked about the 14-year-old's future in his exclusive chat with InsideSport.
Yograj Singh Wants Young Cricketers To Focus On Red-Ball Cricket
Yograj Singh, a well-known cricket coach and a former cricketer stated that the real test of young cricketers like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre is Test cricket. He stated that runs in the 50-over and T20 formats are good, but the players need to concentrate more on red-ball cricket.
The 67-year-old, known to speak his mind added that young cricketers are focussing more on the white-ball formats and players are even struggling to play 50-over formats.
"My vision is Test cricket. Can you survive five days? That’s the real test,” “50 overs – fair enough. 20 overs – fair enough. I don’t go by these formats. But since they (formats) are there, you should be fit enough to play all three formats. Why do you struggle? Because you are only concentrating on T20, IPL and 50 overs. Aj toh 50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte hum log (Today, we cannot even play 50 overs.) “That’s the way we are.”
Thus, Yograj Singh has made it clear that Vaibhav Suryavanshi still has a long way to go and needs to perform in whites to enhance his reputation as a cricketer. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, however, is doing as much as he can and scored 190 from just 90 balls in a practice match recently. Thus, the southpaw looks in great form and would be looking to impress selectors further on the U19 tour of England.
