South African captain Temba Bavuma reached a big personal milestone during the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final at Lord’s Cricket Ground, he completed 10,000 runs in first-class cricket. He achieved this feat on Day 2 of the match against Australia.

Temba Bavuma Reaches 10,000 First-Class Runs

The Proteas skipper reached the 10,000-run mark after scoring 21 runs in the innings. He has been playing first-class cricket since 2008, and it took him 176 matches and 296 innings to reach this landmark.

Known for his calm and determined batting style, Bavuma has scored 18 centuries and 53 fifties in his first-class career, with a top score of 180. His batting average in red-ball cricket is over 38.

In Test matches, Bavuma has also been a key player for South Africa. Since making his debut in 2014, he has played 64 Tests, scoring over 3,600 runs at an average of more than 37, which includes 4 centuries and 24 half-centuries.

Temba Bavuma Shines When Required!

Coming to the match, Australia were in a spot of bother after Temba Bavuma asked them to bat first. They were bundled out for 212 before bouncing back strongly with the ball, having the opposition reduced to 30/4. It was at this crucial moment that Bavuma stepped in, just when his team needed him the most, and David Bedingham gave him able support to steady the ship.

Keeping what was at the stake in mind, Bavuma played 30 dot balls before finally getting off the mark on the following delivery. Soon after, Bavuma found his rhythm and began scoring freely. He struck four boundaries and a six, eventually reaching 36 runs off 84 balls.

However, Australian captain Pat Cummins broke the partnership. In the 40th over, Bavuma attempted a stylish cover drive, but the shot lacked precision. Marnus Labuschagne, positioned at short cover, reacted swiftly, diving full-length to take a brilliant catch.

With Bavuma’s dismissal, South Africa were 94 for 5, trailing by 118 runs.
