David Miller has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 season. The hard-hitting South African batter previously played for the Gujarat Titans three years running before he was released by the franchise prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Nonetheless, ahead of IPL 2025, Miller was asked to compare some of his “biggest heartbreaks” as a professional cricketer, in the IPL as well as in international cricket for South Africa. The LSG franchise shared his interview on March 20, i.e., a couple of days prior to the season.

David Miller compares ‘cricketing heartbreaks’

South African batting heavyweight David Miller has often found himself at the brink of ICC glory in international cricket. In his presence, the Proteas lost the semifinals of the 2015 and 2023 ODI Cricket World Cups, and crashed out within the opening round of the 2019 ODI World Cup, and 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.

The David Miller-starrer South African team also almost clinched glory at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies, only to falter against Team India in the decisive overs by mere seven runs.

In his IPL career, Miller’s Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans suffered defeats in the finals of the 2014 and 2023 editions of the tournament. A couple of days prior to the launch of the IPL 2025 season, the 35-year-old was asked to compare between some of his “biggest heartbreak” moments in competitive cricket.

Following a series of questions, one can determine that the 2024 T20 World Cup final defeat to India was his biggest moment of disappointment. In terms of IPL, the cricketer described the 2023 IPL final defeat a bigger moment of despair for him than the IPL 2014 setback.

The seasoned T20 campaigner will now play for the LSG franchise in IPL 2025, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant. The franchise will play its opening match of the season on March 24 against Delhi Capitals.
