In a significant development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to upgrade cricket stadiums in Multan, Faisalabad and Hyderabad. The announcement was made by Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza, highlighting PCB’s commitment towards enhancing the cricket infrastructure in Pakistan.
The decision has been made after the successful renovation of stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi ahead of the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025. However, the idea of upgrading more stadiums will be a long-term strategy in order to improve international cricket standards in Pakistan.
Stadium Upgrades To Elevate International Cricket Facilities
The re-building work is expected to be completed within 1.5 or 2 years, enhancing the facilities for players, officials and fans in Pakistan. It will also increase the number of international cricket stadiums in the country, making Pakistan a cricketing hub with more venues to host international matches.
It will also lay the groundwork and pave the path for a potential expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the future. With PSL growing in popularity after each year, the demand for more teams and venues is likely to come into the scene very soon.
Additionally, beyond the PSL, modernized stadiums will have a direct impact on the growth of domestic cricketers in the country. Better pitches, outfields and overall facilities will allow young players to nurture their skills to the best and be ready to take on the world representing Pakistan at the biggest stage.
Pakistan Catching Up After Years Of Isolation
Looking at the bigger picture, Pakistan cricket suffered a lot due to the absence of international cricket in the country, with teams refusing to tour the country for more than a decade. The isolation not only created an impact on their players’ growth, but also put a halt to the development of cricket infrastructure.
Now, with the return of international cricket in Pakistan, including a major ICC event in the form of Champions Trophy, PCB are looking to catch up with other cricketing nations and making major investments to modernize their cricket stadiums. Upgraded stadiums will bring back normalcy and attract more world events in future.
