Cricket and traditions have long shared a deep-rooted connection in India, especially in the Indian Premier League. With each season, franchises seek blessings in their own ways, whether through team huddles or jersey unveilings.

In Punjab Kings’ case ahead of IPL 2025, the entire team conducted a ceremonial puja, with none other than head coach and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting joining in, a sight that naturally caught the attention of fans before the campaign kick-off.

In a bid to attain some good fortunes for the IPL 2025 season, the entire Punjab Kings team performed a traditional puja on Thursday, March 20. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who was appointed as Punjab Kings head coach late last year, also joined the ceremony as he was spotted alongside his colleagues in a recent viral picture circulating on social media.

Ricky Ponting was appointed as the head coach of the Punjab Kings franchise back in September last year as a replacement of Trevor Bayliss. Moreover, the franchise also named Shreyas Iyer as team’s new captain after acquiring the cricketer at the IPL 2025 mega auction last November.

With a new coach and a new captain at the helm, the Punjab Kings management will surely be optimistic about its fortunes this time around, considering Iyer led the KKR to a title-victory last year.

As per the IPL 2025 schedule, the Punjab Kings team will play its first match of the season on March 25. They will face Gujarat Titans at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
