Indian men's national cricket team played three Test series across the year 2025, with the Border-Gavaskar trophy continuing into this January. While India were successful in only one (against West Indies) of these 4 Test series, the men in Blue have found new guns to replace the maestros Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format in May 2025.
With the year ending, let’s take a look at who, with the bat, shone at the top for India by becoming the highest run-getters for the team in 2025.
5) Rishabh Pant - 629 runs

Rishabh Pant had a solid year in Test whites, scoring 629 runs from 13 innings. He averaged 48.38 during the year while facing 809 balls at a strike rate of 77.75. He finished with two centuries and four fifties to his name, with his ever-attacking style helping him smash 61 boundaries and 26 sixes.
Pant was a class act of grit and resilience this year, as he showed immense bravery by coming out to bat after sustaining a nasty foot injury during the Manchester Test of the England series.
Nevertheless, his valiant centuries against England at Leeds were something to remember, especially considering that he struggled to cross the 70-run mark thereafter.
His most recent assignment against South Africa, however, turned out to be a nightmare, as he managed to score only 49 runs across four innings.
4) Yashasvi Jaiswal - 745 runs

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented southpaw of India and a brilliant opener in Test whites, scored 745 runs to rank fourth on this list. He accumulated these runs from 19 innings at an average of 39.21 and a strike rate of 66.16. He registered three centuries and three half-centuries in the process, with 110 boundaries and six sixes to his name.
Jaiswal’s notable performances this year came in Leeds against England, where he scored 101 runs, and in Birmingham with his 87. At The Oval, Jaiswal notched up a century, concluding the century spectacle in the West Indies with his 175.
Just like Pant, Jaiswal’s South Africa series also didn’t go well, as he underperformed with just 12 runs at Eden Gardens and scored a total of 71 runs across two innings in Guwahati.
3) Ravindra Jadeja - 764 runs

It is quite interesting to see that for an all-rounder like Ravindra Jadeja, who usually comes to bat at number 6 or number 7, ranks third on this run-getter list. Nevertheless, he did what he is known for. Piled up 764 runs from 17 innings at a massive average of 63.66.
Notably, this is the second-highest average on the list, as he also bagged two centuries and six fifties this year.
Jadeja was a reason to celebrate with the bat this year. In the Birmingham Test against England, he scored a gritty 89 runs while batting for 208 minutes and facing 137 balls.
However, what helped him emerge as the true batting hero for India was the Manchester Test, where he held the fort by scoring 117 runs at No. 6.
Going further, in the West Indies series, Jadeja again racked up an unbeaten 104 from 176 deliveries, followed by a modest performance against South Africa.
2) KL Rahul - 813 runs

KL Rahul comes second on this list with 813 runs from 19 innings, as he averaged 45.16 while striking at 48.50. Rahul was relatively slow with his knocks, yet he racked up three centuries and three fifties to his name, with 100 classy boundaries adding to his tally.
Two of KL Rahul’s centuries came against England, while one came against the West Indies. The South Africa series was subpar for Rahul, like most other Indian batters, as he did not even cross the 40-run mark across the four innings.
In the England series, though, he dominated with the bat, registering consistent 40-plus scores in most of his innings.
The classy KL Rahul was a solid support at No. 2 throughout the year, as he ended his Test tally for 2025 with a feeble six-run innings against South Africa in Guwahati.
1) Shubman Gill - 983 runs

The player with the most Test runs for India in 2025 is Shubman Gill, who scored 983 runs from just 16 innings. He also has the highest average this year in Tests, reading 70.21, while striking at 63.70. He had five centuries to his name, with a fifty also in his bag.
Shubman Gill spoke of dominance since the England series with his scores of 147 in Leeds, 269 and 161 in Birmingham, 103 in Manchester, and 129 against the West Indies in Delhi.
These numbers underscore his ability to consistently score on both home and foreign soil, as he also showed versatility with his batting position, switching between Nos. 3, 4, and 5, while reflecting remarkable form with the bat.
However, this did not have a happy ending, as Gill retired out from Eden Gardens during the first Test against South Africa due to a neck cramp. He was ruled out for the rest of the series, and his Test innings for the year ended abruptly on an unbeaten four-run score.
