Indian women’s cricket has received a big financial boost as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major increase in match fees. As 2025 comes to an end, this decision feels like a welcome bonus for women cricketers across the country.

With this move, women players’ match payments in domestic cricket are now close to what men earn.

BCCI approves 2.5 times match fee hike for Indian domestic players

Notably, the decision was taken during the BCCI’s Apex Council meeting held on December 22. The council approved a new pay structure that increases women players’ match fees by up to 2.5 times. This change makes it much more practical for women to take up cricket as a full-time profession.

Earlier, senior women players in the playing XI earned ₹20,000 per day in domestic matches, while reserve players received ₹10,000. Under the new system, players in the playing XI will now earn ₹50,000 per day in one-day and multi-day matches. Reserve players will get ₹25,000 per match. For T20 matches, playing XI members will receive ₹25,000 per match, and reserves will earn ₹12,500.

Junior women players have also benefited from this revision. In junior tournaments, playing XI members will now be paid ₹25,000 per day, while reserves will earn ₹12,500. In T20 games, junior players in the playing XI will get ₹12,500 per match, and non-playing members will receive ₹6,250. Earlier, these amounts were much lower.

According to a BCCI note, a senior woman cricketer previously earned around ₹2 lakh in a season if her team only played league matches. With the revised pay structure, seasonal earnings are expected to rise significantly, offering better financial security and motivation for players.

The BCCI has also revised payments for umpires and match referees in domestic cricket. Umpires will now receive a uniform fee of ₹40,000 per day for league matches. For knockout matches, they will be paid between ₹50,000 and ₹60,000 per day, depending on the match level.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first major revision in women’s domestic match fees since 2021.
