India's ODI cricket calendar for 2025 concluded with a 2-1 series win at home against South Africa, where fans caught a glimpse of the vintage Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Having retired from the other two formats, the duo returned to playing for India in Australia earlier in October. Still, it did not look out of touch, piling up big runs to feature among the top players of the year.
As the Men in Blue also clinched the ICC Champions Trophy, alongside series wins against England and South Africa, here's a look at the star India batters with the most runs in ODI cricket in 2025.
5. KL Rahul - 367 runs in 11 innings
Despite being a regular and successful number 5 batter in ODIs ahead of 2025, KL Rahul's role changed after the turn of the calendar, as he was made to bat as a finisher behind Axar Patel for the majority of the year, except for the last innings that he played. However, he did not disappoint in his new role, playing some important cameos towards the back end of the innings. He finished the semi-final and the final of the Champions Trophy with an impactful 42*(34) and 34*(33), respectively and ended the year as the stand-in captain, scoring 60(56) and 66*(43) to win the SA ODI series.
He finishes the year with 367 runs in 11 innings, averaging 52.42 at a strike rate of 107.94.
4. Shubman Gill - 490 runs in 11 innings
The recently appointed India ODI captain started the year with scores of 87, 60 and 112 against England at home, followed by another century and an important 46 vs Pakistan in the Champions Trophy to climb up the list. While he struggled to finish the tournament and the year on a high, he finished at number 4, with 490 runs at an average of 49.00 with two fifties and hundreds each.
3. Shreyas Iyer - 496 runs in 10 innings
The recently appointed vice-captain of India's ODI team, Shreyas Iyer, was India's leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy, scoring 243 runs in the tournament on slow Dubai tracks. He was only behind Rachin Ravindra's 263 runs in the competition, and also scored an important 79 in the final.
He ended the year with an injury, but was the third-highest run-getter, with 496 runs at number 4 in 10 innings, scoring five fifties.
2. Rohit Sharma - 650 runs in 14 innings
The star Indian opener started 2025 with a bang, scoring a 119(90) against England in Cuttack. He went on to lead India to the Champions Trophy win in Dubai, where he scored a crucial 76(83) in the final against New Zealand. Upon returning to international cricket, he was replaced as the captain, but that did not affect his performances, as he scored three fifties and a century in the 6 matches against Australia and South Africa.
He accumulated 650 runs in 14 innings, with two hundreds and four fifties, to end the year as the world number 1 batter.
1. Virat Kohli - 651 runs in 13 innings
The undisputed Indian number 3, Virat Kohli, was one of the crucial cogs in India's triumphant Champions Trophy, scoring a century against arch-rivals Pakistan in a tricky run-chase, followed by 84 against Australia in the semi-final. Upon his international return after 7 months, he scored two consecutive ducks but bounced back with four consecutive fifty-plus scores, including two centuries against the Proteas.
He finished the year as India's best batter, scoring 651 runs in 13 innings at an average of 65.10 and a strike rate of 96.15. He had three hundreds and four fifties to his name.
