Afghanistan’s star spinner and captain, Rashid Khan, recently shared in a candid interview that he owns a bulletproof car to move around the streets of Kabul.

While cricketers and celebrated personalities often require security for public appearances, Rashid Khan’s remark about owning a bulletproof car stunned former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was hosting the interview.

Pietersen stunned at Rashid’s comments!

During a conversation in the show ‘The Switch’, Pietersen asked Rashid whether he could walk freely on the streets of Kabul without any interference or fan engagement, to which the spinner replied, “No, I can’t walk on the streets of Afghanistan. I have a bulletproof car.”

Pietersen, curious about the remark, asked why he needed a bulletproof car in Kabul. Rashid Khan simply replied, “It’s for safety. You don’t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s normal in Afghanistan. Everyone has it.”

Pietersen then further poked, “No one’s gonna shoot you. So why do you need a bulletproof car?” to which Rashid replied, “No, it’s not like anyone will shoot me but once you lock your door you are safe and no one can pull the door handles to open and harass me.”

Moreover, Rashid Khan emphasised that the bulletproof car is not a status symbol but more of a tool for personal safety. Afghanistan, being infamous as a conflict-prone region, underlines why Rashid implied that having bulletproof cars is ‘normal’ in the country.
