Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan shared the heart-breaking news that his father, Graham Vaughan, has passed away.

The 51-year-old, who was in Australia covering the Ashes, flew home to be with his family. On Monday, he posted an emotional tribute on Instagram alongside a series of photos, including recent selfies with his dad.

In his Instagram post, Vaughan wrote, “With a heavy heart and tears rolling down my cheek as I type, yesterday we said goodbye to my hero, my mentor, my best pal and most importantly the greatest DAD anyone could ever want. He left us peacefully and in no pain in my brother’s arms to a standing ovation.”

Michael Vaughan shared a series of photos with his dad that garnered over 25K likes in just 7 hours. The comment section also saw ex-cricketers like Kevin Pietersen, Adam Gilchrist and Wasim Jaffer sharing condolences for the England legend’s father.

Further, continuing in his post of appreciation for his father, Vaughan expressed gratitude for making it home in time, saying: “I am just so blessed to have made it home to spend the most special 30 hours laying next to him talking, crying and, as always with Dad, laughing.”

Vaughan also thanked his brother David, calling him “a rock,” and David’s wife Caroline for their support. He acknowledged the staff at Weston Park Cancer Centre in Sheffield and St Luke’s Hospice, where his father spent his final moments, adding: “You are where he wanted to announce his innings was over.”

This loss comes after a difficult week for Vaughan, who was barricaded inside a restaurant during the Bondi terror attack the previous weekend.

It is unclear if he will return to Australia for the remaining Ashes Tests, with England having already lost the series after three consecutive defeats.
