The T20 format itself is batsman friendly with flat tracks and short boundaries and less opportunity for bowlers to shine. But over time bowlers have adapted to be competitive.

In the IPL, some bowlers, especially spinners, have shown consistency and long-term value to their franchises. Sunil Narine, in particular, has been one of KKR’s longest-serving loyalists.

In IPL 2025, he scripted history by picking up his 209th wicket. Here’s a list of the most T20 wickets picked by a bowler for a single team in the format’s history.

5. David Payne – 193 wickets (Gloucestershire)

Left-arm pacer David Payne is not a household name internationally, but his T20 Gloucestershire record is simply terrific. With a remarkable tally of 193 wickets for the team, he has consistently delivered strong performances in the English T20 Blast. His skills at swinging the ball and performing under pressure make him a highly valued player. He is ranked 5th on the list of top wicket-takers for one team.

The legendary Lasith Malinga is undoubtedly one of the most recognised figures in T20 cricket. The Sri Lankan bowler was a match-winner for the Mumbai Indians (MI) for a decade or more. His toe-ending yorkers and lethal slower balls used to give batters nightmares. Malinga's 195 IPL wickets won MI multiple IPL titles, and he is still one of the most legendary IPL bowlers ever.

3. Chris Wood – 199 wickets (Hampshire)

Hampshire left-arm pacer Chris Wood is yet another case of a long-term domestic T20 veteran. With his tight lines and deadly yorkers, Wood has 199 wickets for Hampshire and is just one wicket away from becoming only the third bowler in T20 history to take 200 wickets for a single team.

2. Samit Patel – 208 wickets (Nottinghamshire)

English all-rounder Samit Patel has been a legend in county cricket, especially for Nottinghamshire in the T20 Blast. He has picked up 208 wickets for the club, just one short of Narine’s record. A clever left-arm spinner, Patel has also contributed valuable runs, making him one of the most dependable players in England’s domestic T20 circuit.

Great spinner Sunil Narine has been one of the mainstays of KKR since he arrived at the franchise in 2012. With his unconventional action and economy of bowling in any stage of the game, Narine has produced match-winning performances season after season.

His 209 wickets for KKR have come over the course of more than a decade of high-quality T20 cricket, indicating just how consistent and dependable he is..

Whether bowling in the powerplay, middle overs, or at the death, Narine has always been trusted by his captains. With this record, he has now become the most successful bowler for a single T20 franchise in terms of wickets.
