The art of clearing the boundary is a defining spectacle in T20 cricket. Over the years, several Indian batters have elevated this skill to a fine craft, consistently dispatching bowlers into the stands. With a blend of elegance and brute force, these players have completely mastered the six-hitting game.
Celebrating India’s success in T20 cricket, here is a look at four of their leading six-hitters in format history.
4. MS Dhoni – 350 sixes
MS Dhoni tonked the 350th six of his T20 career, doing so during CSK’s penultimate match of the IPL 2025 season against Rajasthan Royals. In the process, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter became only the fourth Indian cricketer to scale the landmark figure in the shortest format of the game.
Ever since making his T20 debut back in December 2006 with an international match against South Africa, MS Dhoni has launched 350 maximums, including 290 in IPL and Champions League T20 combined. In T20 internationals for Team India, the former Indian captain whacked an additional 52 maximums from 85 innings, all while batting either in the middle order or lower down the order.
3. Suryakumar Yadav – 368 sixes
Indian T20I captain and Mumbai Indians’ batting stalwart Suryakumar Yadav has accrued 368 sixes in his 297-match carer so far. Despite making his T20I debut in March 2021 with a match against England, the elegant middle-order batter has already launched 146 maximums in just 79 innings for Team India.
In IPL, Suryakumar holds 156 sixes from 147 innings, with most of them being for the Mumbai Indians franchise since 2018.
2. Virat Kohli – 434 sixes
India’s all-time batting great Virat Kohli has smashed 434 sixes in his T20 career, including 124 maximums in T20Is for Team India. In 269 T20 innings for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise across IPL and CLT20 cricket, Kohli has belted over 300 sixes, 304 to be exact since 2008.
The prolific right-handed batter pounded 38 sixes each during the 2016 and 2024 editions of the IPL to enjoy some of his best six-hitting seasons. Apart from his 434-six collection, Virat Kohli has also aggregated 1,188 boundaries in 393 innings of his career.
1. Rohit Sharma – 542 sixes
Former Indian T20I captain Rohit Sharma remains the highest six-hitter in the game’s international format by a landslide, having hit 205 sixes to find himself 32 hits ahead of second-placed Martin Guptill’s 173 maximums. Notably, Sharma has also aggregated nearly 300 sixes in the Indian Premier League (IPL), 297 to be exact from just 263 innings. As of now, only former RCB cricketer and legendary West Indies opener Chris Gayle remains a bigger six-hitter than the Mumbai Indians opener in the IPL.
Overall, Rohit Sharma is sitting on a pile of 542 sixes from just 446 T20 innings to be ranked seventh among the all-time leading six-hitters.
