Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) shares a rich and storied IPL rivalry with five-time winners Mumbai Indians, one which started back in 2008 during the inception of the tournament. From 2008 up until the opening few weeks of IPL 2025, the two fan-favorite franchises have put up quite a number of cracking exhibitions for fans of the sport.

The RCB franchise, generally prominent for its star-studded batting line-up across all seasons, have occasionally managed to rack up some huge totals against Mumbai Indians bowlers. Celebrating RCB’s latest batting blitz at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2025, here is a look at their five highest IPL team totals against Mumbai Indians.

5. RCB 196/8, Wankhede 2024

In match number 25 of the IPL 2024 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the visiting RCB team mounted 196-8 from 20 overs after getting invited to bat first. Captain and opening batter Faf du Plessis top-scored in the innings with 61 runs from 40 balls after the early loss of Virat Kohli to Jasprit Bumrah. Rajat Patidar slapped a 26-ball fifty, while wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik bludgeoned 53 unbeaten runs from just 23 balls to counter Bumrah’s five-fer.

Unfortunately for the RCB, their bowlers failed to halt Mumbai Indians rampage in the run-chase as the hosts cruised towards a seven-wicket victory, doing so with 27 balls to spare.

4. RCB 199/6, Wankhede 2023

Towards the backend of the IPL 2023 season, a Faf du Plessis-led RCB team amassed 199-6 from 20 overs. Captain Faf bashed 65 runs off just 41 balls with five boundaries and three sixes, while Glenn Maxwell smeared 68 from 33 deliveries before Dinesh Karthik’s 18-ball 30 provided late impetus to the RCB at the Wankhede Stadium. Notably, the team had slipped to 16-2 inside three overs at one stage of the match after losing the toss to Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma.

Despite forming a monumental total upfront, RCB bowlers failed to complement batter’s efforts as Mumbai Indians romped to a six-wicket win in just 16.3 overs courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav’s 35-ball 83.

3. RCB 201/7, Dubai 2020

RCB batted first and mounted 201-7 from 20 overs against Mumbai Indians at the Dubai International Stadium in match 10 of the IPL 2020 season. Opening batters Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 40) and Aaron Finch (52 off 35) clubbed blistering fifties at the top in their 81-run stand, before wicketkeeper-batter AB de Villiers smeared four boundaries and four huge sixes in his 24-bal 55*. Shivam Dube also blasted 27* from 10 balls in the slog overs as Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard were taken to the cleaners by the RCB line-up.

Later in the game, Mumbai Indians also charted 201-5 courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s 58-ball 99, before a thrilling Super Over went in RCB’s favor.

2. RCB 221/5, Wankhede 2025

Under the guidance of new captain Rajat Patidar in IPL 2025, RCB racked up 221-5 from 20 overs after being put into bat first. Opening batter Virat Kohli belted 67 runs from just 42 balls at the top, while captain Patidar led from the front with a swift 32-ball 64.

Jitesh Sharma further flogged Mumbai Indians bowlers at the Wankhede Stadium during the slog overs with a speedy 19-ball 40* to take Hardik Pandya and Trent Boult to the cleaners.

1. RCB 235/1, Wankhede 2015

In match 46 of the IPL 2015 season, RCB opener and captain Virat Kohli formed a partnership for the ages with number three batter AB de Villiers for the second wicket. The two cricketers shared an unbeaten stand of 215 runs after the early loss of Chris Gayle, to lift RCB from a precarious 20-1 in 3.1 overs to 235-1 at the end of the innings.

While Kohli flayed Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack with a 50-ball 82*, Villers hauled 133* from just 50 balls with 19 boundaries and four huge sixes against the likes of Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Harbhajan Singh and Hardik Pandya. With their colossal partnership, the two legendary batters also laid out groundwork of RCB’s NRR-boosting 39-run win in the game.
