Washington Sundar bludgeoned 49 runs from just 29 balls for the Gujarat Titans in match number 19 of the IPL 2025 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting at number four in a chase of 153 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sundar clattered five boundaries and a couple of huge sixes to navigate the Titans to a comfortable seven-wicket win in just 16.4 overs.
While Sundar’s knock drew much praise and admiration from fans and cricket experts, the Gujarat Titans franchise also took this opportunity to unearth an old tweet of another ‘Sundar’, that of Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Titans draw up Sundar Pichai’s old tweet
Washington Sundar was acquired by the Gujarat Titans back during the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. After being benched from the first three Titans games this season, the cricketer was roped into the playing XI for the match against SRH in Hyderabad on April 6.
A couple of weeks ago, when Washington was struggling to get into the playing XI, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had jokingly responded to a fan on X, one who seemed puzzled about the all-rounder's non-selection in the IPL.
“I have been wondering this too:)”
However, mere moments after Washington Sundar’s match-winning special against SRH, the Gujarat Titans franchise dug up Sundar Pichai’s earlier tweet and responded with a caption:
“Sundar came. Sundar conquered.”
Nonetheless, the outcome marked Gujarat Titans’ third win in succession as they jumped to the second spot on the 10-team IPL 2025 points table. With three wins from four games, the NRR of the Titans currently reads a formidable 1.031.
They will now face the Rajasthan Royals in match number 23 of the IPL 2025 season at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, April 9.
