The Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings may not share a storied rivalry, considering the former had their IPL induction just a couple of years ago back in 2022. However, the two teams have already put up quite a number of cracking contests.

Notably, the LSG have batted first in each of their five meetings with Punjab Kings so far up until the first half of IPL 2025, having conjured astonishing totals on a few of those occasions. Here, we take a look at five of the highest totals recorded by the LSG franchise against Punjab Kings bowlers.

5. LSG 153-8, Pune 2022

In the first-ever match played out between the LSG and Punjab Kings back in IPL 2022, the former batted first at Pune’s MCA Stadium and conjured a competitive 153-8 from 20 overs. After the early dismissal of captain and opening batter KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock listed 46 quick runs from 37 balls while number three Deepak Hooda chipped in with a swift 28-ball 34.

Fast bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Mohsin Khan unfurled sizzling cameos in the slog overs to counter Kagiso Rabada’s four-wicket haul. The total turned out to be a match-winning for the LSG, as Mohsin and Dushmantha picked up five wickets between them to keep Punjab Kings down by 20 runs.

4. LSG 159-8, Lucknow 2023

In match 21 of the IPL 2023 season at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, LSG batted first and accrued 159-8 from 20 overs. Captain and charismatic opener KL Rahul top-scored in the innings with a well-compiled 74 off 56 balls. Rahul’s opening partner Kyle Mayers also launched three huge sixes in his 23-ball 29 during their quick 53-run stand at the top of the order.

While LSG listed 159 at the end of the innings, a backend batting collapse, as orchestrated by Punjab Kings bowlers Sam Curran (3-31) and Kagiso Rabada (2-34) prevented them from getting a bigger total. The Kings eventually overhauled LSG in a tense last-over finish by two wickets to spare.

3. LSG 171-7, Lucknow 2025

Batting first at the Ekana Stadium in their first home game of IPL 2025, LSG lost three quick wickets, including that of both openers, well inside the opening powerplay itself. Blistering number three Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30) and cracking middle-order batter Ayush Badoni (41 off 33) both counterattacked Punjab Kings bowlers with crucial 40s to lead LSG’s recovery.

Abdul Samad also flourished during the slog overs by crashing a 12-ball cameo of 27 runs as LSG reached a competitive 171-7 after having slipped to 35-3 at one stage. For the Punjab Kings, ace speedster Arshdeep Singh picked up figures of 3-35.

2. LSG 199-8, Lucknow 2024

LSG batters launched an all-out assault against Punjab Kings bowlers at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium in match 11 of the IPL 2024 season. Batting first, and playing under the leadership of interim captain Nicholas Pooran, the hosts mounted 199-8 from 20 overs.

Opener Quinton de Kock top-scored with a cunning 38-ball 54 at the top of the order. Captain Pooran launched three boundaries and three sixes in his 21-ball 42, while unbeaten Krunal Pandya made 43* quick runs off just 22 deliveries with four fours and a couple of huge maximums.

Fast bowlers Mohsin Khan (2-34) and Mayank Yadav (3-27) later helped LSG secure a stunning 21-run win by limiting Punjab Kings’ response to 178-5.

1. LSG 257-5, Mohali 2023

Facing Punjab Kings at the latter’s home ground in Mohali in IPL 2023, LSG belted a monumental total of 257-5 from 20 overs, the highest of the season and the highest ever in the history of the franchise. After the early wicket of captain KL Rahul, opening batter Kyle Mayers minted 54 off 24 with four sixes and seven boundaries.

Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) clubbed cracking 40s while Marcus Stoinis muscled 72 runs from just 40 deliveries with five huge maximums.
