Team India downed Pakistan by making light work of the latter’s competitive 171-run total. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma laid out the foundation of the innings with a barrage of boundaries and sixes as the ‘Men in Blue’ pulled off their highest successful chase against their biggest arch-rivals in T20I history.

Celebrating India’s landmark win under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav in the 2025 Asia Cup, here is a look at six of the highest run-chases pulled off by them against Pakistan in T20I history.

6. India 129-2 vs Pakistan, Colombo 2012

In match 20 of the 2012 T20 Asia Cup in Colombo, then young batter Virat Kohli punched out 78* off just 61 balls to help India surpass Pakistan’s 128 with three overs to spare. After bowlers Lakshmipathy Balaji, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh enveloped the entire Pakistani line-up for a below-par total, Team India catered themselves to a comfortable win riding on Kohli’s half-century. Explosive opener Virender Sehwag also made his presence felt at the top with a fiery 29.

5. India 131-3 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2025

Against the heightened cross border tensions between the two geopolitical rivals, Team India thrashed their Pakistani counterparts by seven wickets in the Group A match of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. Ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav entangled Pakistan with a sizzling three-fer, and received much assistance from Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel to restrict the ‘Men in Green’ to 127-9.

In response, Abhishek Sharma smeared an explosive 13-ball 31, and captain Suryakumar Yadav anchored the Indian run-chase with a cunning 47* alongside Tilak Varma (31) to seal the deal in just 15.5 overs.

4. India 131-3 vs Pakistan, Mirpur 2014

Team India, under MS Dhoni, started off their 2014 T20 World Cup campaign with a clinical seven-wicket win against Pakistan in their opening Group 2 game. Wily leg-spinner Amit Mishra bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for claiming the wickets of Ahmed Shehzad and Shoaib Malik and restricting Pakistan to just 130-7 in 20 overs in Mirpur.

As was the case in the preceding T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten to take India past Pakistan, this time by scoring a composed 36*. Middle-order stalwart Suresh Raina also listed a quick 35* as India won the match with nine balls to spare.

3. India 148-5 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2022

Hardik Pandya doused Pakistan with an all-round spectacle for the ages back in the initial stages of the 2022 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. Picking up three wickets at an expense of just 25 runs, Pandya aided Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-26) as India restricted Pakistan to just 147.

With KL Rahul, captain Rohit Sharma, clutch man Virat Kohli and T20 superstar Suryakumar Yadav all failing in the chase, Hardik blasted 33* runs off just 17 balls with four boundaries and a six to seal the deal in a thrilling final over.

2. India 160-6 vs Pakistan, MCG 2022

Not the biggest, but certainly India’s most memorable conquest over Pakistan by a landslide, orchestrated by none other than modern-day batting behemoth Virat Kohli amid some loud criticism over his extensive form slump.

Up against the pressure of chasing 160 at the world’s grandest stadium (MCG) at the grandest stage (2022 T20 World Cup), all while facing an experienced bowling attack, with memories of the preceding year’s heartbreak (first defeat to Pakistan in a World Cup) still lingering in their minds, Team India weathered the storm after a colossal top-order setback to emerge victorious following a topsy-turvy final over.

Virat Kohli packed one of the innings of his life with an unbeaten 82* and formed a match-defining partnership with Hardik Pandya (40 off 37) to lift India from a precarious 31-4 to a remarkable win.

1. India 174-4 vs Pakistan, Dubai 2025

Roughly a week after trashing Pakistan in the group stage of the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai, a Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team once again outclassed the ‘Men in Green’, albeit in the Super Four stage of the tournament at the same venue.

In pursuit of 172 runs, Indian openers Abhishek Sharma (74 off 39) and Shubman Gill (47 off 28) carpet bombed Pakistan’s bowling attack with a 105-run opening stand in less than 10 overs. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya notched up the winning runs for India with six wickets and seven balls left in the bank.
