Mark Chapman has been ruled out of New Zealand’s second ODI against Pakistan, a match set to be played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on April 2. A couple of days ago, the 30-year-old bludgeoned his career-best score of 132 from just 111 balls to bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award against the ‘Men in Green’.
Chapman suffered a right hamstring injury, prompting the New Zealand management to recall Tim Seifert back into the team’s ODI set-up after a gap of more than six years.
Seifert makes ODI return after six years
New Zealand’s in-form middle order batter Mark Chapman has been ruled out of the second ODI of the series against Pakistan owing to a right hamstring injury. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed the development on Tuesday, April 1; i.e., just a day prior to the second ODI match between the two sides.
With Chapman injured after cracking a match-winning century, NZC has named T20I regular Tim Seifert as his replacement. Seifert recently blasted 97 unbeaten runs from just 38 balls with 10 huge sixes at Wellington in the fifth T20I match against Pakistan. The firebrand opening batter also won the ‘Player of the Series’ award for minting 249 runs across five matches.
Notably, Tim Seifert played the last of his three ODI matches for New Zealand back in January 2019 against Sri Lanka, i.e., more than six years ago.
In the recently concluded five-match T20I series against Pakistan, the 30-year-old unleashed three 40-plus scores, all in match-winning causes. Moreover, he cracked a 38-ball 97* in the final T20I to extend his series tally to 249 runs.
The second ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan will be hosted by the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday, April 2.
