Will IPL fine Digvesh Rathi? [Source: @ipl/x.com]
The Punjab Kings needed 172 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants to win their second successive game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They started with barrage of boundaries as Prabhsimran Singh looked in good touch, however, disaster struck at the other end.
Priyansh Arya, who was outstanding on his IPL debut, failed to deliver the goods and was dismissed for 8 runs by LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi. However, the dismissal was not the talking point, as Rathi got carried away after the wicket and went closer to the batter and gave a send-off. He imitated to sign something on his palm as the batter didn't take the gesture kindly.
Now, the question arises, will Digvesh Rathi be slapped with hefty fine by the IPL for this unnecessary gesture?.
Will Digvesh Rathi be fined?
As per article 2.5 of the IPL Code Of Conduct, using language, gesture which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player is deemed offensive.
- It includes excessive celebration directed at and in close proximity to the dismissed batter.
- Verbally abusing a dismissed batter

Shreyas taking PBKS home
Despite losing Priyansh Arya, PBKS stuck to its aggressive batting style and took down the LSG attack with ease. Captain Shreyas Iyer came in at number 3 and started with a couple of boundaries. However, the star of the show was Prabhsimran Singh, who failed in the first match, but took the LSG attack to all parks of the ground and reached his fifty in no time as the team is currently at 99/1 inside 9 overs.
