India Vs Australia is perhaps the most competitive rivalry in the cricket world at the moment. The two teams have had fierce battles against each other and have taken the rivalry to the next level in the last decade.
What started as a one-sided rivalry has turned into an equal battle, with India dominating in the last decade, winning the last 4 Test series. Interestingly, India has also won the last two Test series in Australia and have created countless memories.
Ahead of the much-anticipated first Test match in Perth, we look at India's top 3 Test wins on Australian shores.
3) Dravid's heroics seals victory in Adelaide
India came into the 2003/04 Border-Gavaskar Series as the underdogs. However, they silenced all their doubters with a memorable performance at the Gabba, by drawing the contest. But come the Adelaide Test, Australian team showed their class and posted a mammoth 556 runs in their first innings.
Ricky Ponting led the onslaught as he hammered 242 runs and pushed India out of the contest. In reply, India lost 4 early wickets and were on the verge of a humiliating defeat. But the reliable duo of Rahul Dravid (233) and VVS Laxman (148) bailed India out of a precarious situation and brought India back in the contest.
Ajit Agarkar bowled a fine spell of 6 for 41 in the second innings as India needed 230 runs to win. Dravid, just like the first innings stood tall once again and scored an unbeaten 72 to steer India to a memorable win.
2) Perth win after Monkey gate scandal
The 2007/08 Australia tour was full of controversies. The saga took a negative turn during the 2nd Test in Sydney when umpire Steve Bucknor gave plenty of wrong decisions and Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan Singh were involved in the racism scandal.
Heading into the 3rd Test, India had a point to prove and they did exactly that. On a spicy deck at Perth, Team India full of energy dismantled the Australian team. India scored 330 in their first innings and bundled the Australian side for 212, with RP Singh taking 4 wickets.
In their second innings, India were all-out for 294, meaning Australia needed 413 to win the contest. However, some resilient bowling by Ishant Sharma, combined with heroic fielding efforts gave India their first-ever win at the Perth Stadium.
1) India break Australia's Gabba fortress
Nothing can top what the world witnessed in the Gabba Test between India and Australia. It was a series out of which a movie could be made. Heading into the series decider at Gabba, tour was evenly poised at 1:1. However, Gabba, Brisbane was Australia's fortress and India had to breach it.
Batting first, Australia posted 369 runs, courtesy of a Marnus Labuschagne century. In reply, the unlikely duo of Shardul Thakur (67) and Washington Sundar (62) forged a match-winning partnership and took India to 336.
Mohammed Siraj, playing in his maiden Test tour grabbed a 5-wicket haul in the second innings as India needed 328 runs to seal the series. Despite a mountain to climb, Indian batters showed their brave heart as Cheteshwar Pujara (56), Shubman Gill (91), and the hero, Rishabh Pant (89*) did the unthinkable and India clinched the series in the absence of their key players.
