After a humiliating three-nil whitewash against New Zealand on home soil, India are gearing up to take on Australia in a high-voltage five-match series in their backyard. This tour is significantly important from India's perspective, considering their WTC final participation is under severe threat following three straight defeats against the Blackcaps.
Meanwhile, as the Indian players are getting ready to face the mighty Aussies, the first picture of the pitch at Perth Stadium has grabbed the attention. Renowned for its pacy and bouncy wicket, the Perth Stadium will host the series opener, with India and Australia battling it for supremacy.
Perth Stadium's Pitch Revealed Before IND vs AUS 1st Test
Ahead of the high-profile encounter, reputed media outlet RevSportz has circulated images of Perth Stadium's surface. As seen from the picture, the pitch contains live grass and can't be distinguished from the outfield at the moment. So, we reckon there is around 8-10 mm of live grass on the pitch, but it's expected that the curator will trim it a day before the Test match.
Nevertheless, expect Perth Stadium's pitch to contain a genuine grass-covering and assist the fast bowlers throughout the first Test. The pitch will have enough pace and extra bounce to pose threats to the batters from both sides. Apart from pace and bounce, the fast bowlers will get substantial seam movement, particularly with the new ball.
As the Kookaburra ball gets older and softer, it will be slightly easier for the batters to get some runs. But having said that, the seam bowlers will be in the game on all five days, while spinners like Nathan Lyon and Washington Sundar, who rely on overspin, will succeed at this venue.
All in all, a fascinating Test match awaits us, only if the batters from both sides toil hard in the middle and don't throw wickets by playing casual shots.
