There is no double opinion on cricket fans and their love for sixes raining over the boundaries. While power-hitting has always been a crucial part of the game, modern cricket has elevated it to a new level with top-order batters and even part-time batters hitting it out of the ground in Test cricket.

Traditionally, hitting sixes has been primarily the role of batters. However, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has recently grabbed attention by matching Chris Gayle, aka, The Universe Boss, for the record of the most sixes in Test cricket. On Day 1 of the third Test against England, Southee lit up the field with a quickfire 23 off just 10 balls, smashing three sixes along the way.

The Kiwi pacer, therefore, is now tied with Chris Gayle for the most sixes in Test cricket history. With Southee moving up the tier, here's a look at the most number of sixes hit by cricketers in their Test career.

5) Chris Gayle (98 Sixes)

Chris Gayle, the legendary 'Universe Boss', once held the record for the most sixes in cricket history. Known for his explosive power and fearless batting, Gayle has dazzled fans with his incredible ability to smash boundaries. With an astonishing 553 sixes, 98 in Tests, 331 in ODIs, and 124 in T20Is, the southpaw embodies raw strength and thrilling aggression at the crease. Watching him launch colossal sixes was an exhilarating spectacle in every format.

4) Tim Southee (98 Sixes)

Tim Southee has established himself as a powerful hitter of big shots in Test cricket. As he made headlines by equalling Chris Gayle's record of 98 sixes in Test matches, he also stands above him in the ranks. Potentially, if he hits two more sixes in his second innings against England, he could retire as the third player to achieve the most sixes in Test cricket history. Additionally, Southee has also hit 26 sixes in ODIs and 18 sixes in the T20I format.

3) Adam Gilchrist (100 Sixes)

With 100 sixes in Test cricket, the Australian legend, Adam Gilchrist, has been explosive with his bat for his team across all formats. Besides, who can forget his remarkable 57-ball century against England in Perth in 2006, which included 4 sixes? In addition to his masterclass in Test matches, the veteran also boasts 149 sixes in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

2) Brendon McCullum (107 Sixes)

Brendon McCullum has hit 107 sixes in Test cricket and has been a daunting figure for Indian fans ever since he scored a massive 302 against India in 2014. That innings included 4 sixes and 32 boundaries, which shook India's confidence to its core. McCullum ranks second on the all-time list for Test sixes and also boasts 200 sixes in ODIs and 91 sixes in T20Is.

1) Ben Stokes (133 Sixes)

Ben Stokes currently holds the record for the most sixes in Test cricket history, with a remarkable total of 133 hits. His most memorable performance came during the 2019 Ashes series against Australia, where he scored an impressive 135 runs, including 8 sixes and 11 boundaries. As the captain of the England team, Stokes has established a significant lead on the leaderboard, making it unlikely that anyone will surpass his record anytime soon.
