As the first day of the Gabba Test was called off, it turned out to be a sad ending for the Indian fans who waited since early morning for the game. Relentless rain disrupted what promised to be an electrifying contest between India and Australia.

The decision to bowl first saw fans biting their nails, but only 13.2 overs of play unfolded before the heavens unleashed yet another tidal wave, sending everyone into an early lunch. However, besides the audience, the rain also seemed to have spoiled Jasprit Bumrah's day as the star pacer was caught complaining about the pitch on the stump-mic.

Bumrah's Complain Caught On Stump-Mic

The atmosphere turned tense as India’s ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah took to the field, determined to unsettle the Australian openers. But a few deliveries in, Bumrah found himself grappling with the conditions as pacers were finding it difficult to move the ball.

Frustration seeped into his voice as he muttered over the stump microphone, “Nahi ho raha swing, kahin bhi kar (There is no swing no matter where you bowl).” It apparently was a raw moment of honesty that perfectly captured the struggle of the India veteran in the face of challenging pitch conditions.

Nevertheless, Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney showed remarkable resilience, crafting a solid partnership amidst the showers. They calmly steered their team to 28 without loss, absorbing the early pressure.

Rain Plays Spoilsport As Australia Holds Fort On Day 1

The first few minutes were a nervy affair, with Australia reaching 19 runs, interrupted only by a light drizzle. McSweeney’s solid defence kept the Indian bowlers at bay, while Khawaja found his groove, dispatching a Siraj delivery to the boundary just before the break and picking up another after play resumed.

Siraj opened the bowling soon making way for Akash Deep. Akash found his rhythm with the ball soon keeping the batters guessing with his skiddy movement. Just when it seemed like the match might find its stride, a sudden burst of rain brought everything crashing to a halt.

As the rain continued to pour down even after the afternoon and evening sessions, Day 1 was called off and Australia will resume their inning on Day 2 at 5:20 AM IST and 9:50 AM Local Time.
