Individual batting signs of brilliance have been the highlight of the ongoing first Test between West Indies and India in Dominica, with the likes of Alick Athanaze, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma scoring runs.
Since Day 1, the track has been on the slower side and has assisted spinners, as seen with Ravichandran Ashwin claiming a fifer. Day 2 was no different, with both Jaiswal and Sharma meandering towards runs, as India went past West Indies' first-inning total.
The first session yielded 66 runs, while both batters gained momentum in the second, slamming 99 runs. However, the flow of runs dipped again, as both Kohli and Jaiswal managed just 67 runs as India ended Day 2 on 312 for 2, extending their lead to 162.
Debutant Jaiswal, who is known to be an explosive batter, showcased grit and balanced technique on a track where runs needs to be grinded.
As reported by PTI, Jaiswal, who is currently batting on 143* was heard complaining to Kohli about how his most aggressive shots are failing to meet the boundary line.
Here's what Jaiswal said
“Zor se maar raha hoon, jaa hi nahi raha! (I am hitting powerfully but the ball isn't travelling)."
Both Kohli and Jaiswal have added 72 runs from 205 balls for the third wicket, where the former has scored the majority of runs.
It will be interesting how India approach batting on Day 3, with the pitch deteriorating by every session.
