On September 20, The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced its squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh, scheduled from October 2 to 14 in the UAE. The series will start with three T20 matches in Sharjah on October 2, 3, and 5, followed by three ODIs in Abu Dhabi from October 8 to 14.

This tour also completes the postponed 2024 series, which was originally meant to be played across all formats but was revised due to scheduling conflicts.

One big change in the squads is the absence of left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi, who impressed in the Asia Cup 2025, taking 2 wickets in 3 innings.

Along with him, all-rounders Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat have also been left out. Filling Farooqi’s spot is 20-year-old uncapped fast bowler Bashir Ahmad, who has been selected for both the ODI and T20 sides.

Who Is Bashir Ahmad?

Bashir Ahmad is a left-arm pacer, who was born in 12 July 2005. He has shown promise in domestic cricket, picking up 12 wickets in 14 T20 matches at an economy of 9.06.

Notably, he made his first-class debut for Boost Region in May 2024. His inclusion gives Afghanistan a fresh pace option to strengthen their bowling attack. He has also played for Afghanistan under-19 team.

Another newcomer is 18-year-old batter Wafiullah Tarakhil, who has been selected for the T20Is after a standout Shpageeza League performance, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer.

Other squad updates include Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who retains his T20 spot, while AM Ghazanfar joins the ODI squad, replacing Mujeeb. Rahmat Shah Zurmati is in the T20 reserves, and Bilal Sami and Faridoon Dawoodzai are part of the ODI reserve pool.
